Summary of consumer issues experienced by people aged 65 and more

Among consumer issues reported to local consumer affairs centers and the like across Japan by fiscal 2023, NCAC has summarized cases where contract signatories were consumers aged 65 and more.

The breakdown of cases in fiscal 2023 by products and services shows that "cosmetics" and "health food" were high in number both in contract signatories aged 65 and more and in those under 65. "Other services", "repair service", "other financial services", "mobile communication service", "Internet connection service", etc. ranked high in number among contract signatories aged 65 and more, compared to contract signatories under 65.

The breakdown of cases by sales/purchase method in each age group shows that the age group of 65-69 has the highest percentage of "mail order sales including online sales" and the percentage decreases as the age increases. On the other hand, the percentage of "door-to-door sales", "telemarketing" and "door-to-door purchase" increases as the age increases. The age group of 85 and more has the highest percentage of "door-to-door sales", exceeding "mail order sales including online sales".
